If you have not already seen it, I think you guys would enjoy Permanent Midnight, Jerry Stahl's memoir of his descent into heroin addiction while writing for "ALF." The show and character feature prominently, though they change its name to "Mr. Chompers." Stellar performance by Ben Stiller.

FYI, most cats get sick if they drink milk. It is mainly a thing they do in movies.
